Annie Herring Obituary

Mrs. Annie Doris Herring, lovingly known as Doris, age 90 of Wallace, departed this life on June 16, 2026, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She was born on May 1, 1936, in Wallace, North Carolina, to the late James Mott and Sendonia Mott.

Doris was raised in Wallace, North Carolina, where she attended elementary and high school. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose life was marked by hard work, dedication, and love for her family.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late James Kimerlee Herring on August 19, 1956. After their marriage, the couple moved to Jamaica, Queens, New York, where Doris worked for more than 30 years at a zipper factory in Long Island City. Following her retirement, she and her husband returned to North Carolina, where they enjoyed their retirement years together.

Doris enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spending time outdoors. She especially loved her flowers and took great pride in caring for them. Her beautiful gardens reflected her patient spirit, creativity, and love of nature. She also treasured the time she spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories that will be cherished for generations.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, James and Sendonia Mott; her husband, James Kimerlee Herring; her sons, Clyde Herring and Eddie Herring; her brothers, Ruben Mott, Walter Mott, Frank Mott, and Willie Mott; and her sisters, Lacey Mott, Geraldine Thompson, and Alice Artis.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, James Herring of Fayetteville, North Carolina; her brothers, Ronnie Glenn Mott (Jackie); her sisters, Myrtle Battle (Jessie), Rosia Mott, Hazel Ware (Jerry), and Brenda Woods (Clayton); 12 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and two dear friends, Glenda Barton and Ruth Carr.

Doris was a faithful member of Byrds Chapel Church in Rose Hill, North Carolina, where she worshipped and fellowshipped with her church family.

A visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, 2026, at Byrds Chapel Church in Rose Hill, North Carolina. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Pastor James Faison Jr. will officiate.

Though she has departed from this earthly life, the love, kindness, and memories Doris shared will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

"Well done, thou good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
