Betty Dobson, a resident of Duplin County, passed away peacefully in hospice on February 27, 2025 at the age of seventy-six. Betty was born November 8, 1948 to James Edward & Christine Washington. Betty was known as ‘Aunt Bet’ to her nieces and nephews. She was so full of life and love.
She was married to Fred D. Dobson and out of this union was born one daughter, Taneha.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edward Washington and Christine Washington, two bothers, James Earl Washington and Roosevelt ‘Pewee’ Washington.
She leaves to cherish her memory her only daughter, Taneha (Dennis) Murphy; two grandchildren, Yontee Dobson and Lawston Murphy, Harrells, NC; Thomas Wilson ‘son’, Faison NC; sisters, Rebecca (Albert) King, Willard, NC; Contrina (Thomas) Newkirk, White Plains, NY; brothers, Henry Lee Washington, Willard, NC; Donnell (Louise) Washington, Willard, NC; and Bonnie Ray (Linda) Johnson, Wallace, NC; sisters-in-love, Jannie Bell Washington, Wallace, NC; Flora Washington, Atlanta GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Betty received her education at Charity High School, and continued her education at James Sprunt Community College located in Kenansville, NC, where she received her Cosmetology degree. After passing the North Carolina State Cosmetology exam, Betty became an entrepreneur opening her own hair salon in Wallace, NC which remained open for more than twenty years.
