Prophetess, Elder Betty Lewis Young affectionately known as “Evangelist Young” to many, was the 63-year old daughter of the late Mrs. Martha Jane Lewis Murphy Crawford and the late Mr. Leonard Charles 'L.C.' Bland, Sr. of Burgaw, North Carolina.   She was a native of the Wards Corner Community in Pender County. Betty was the second oldest of seven children, with the eldest, Queen Elizabeth Alderman being deceased. She was also preceded in death by her infant daughter, Sabrina Lewis. 

She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter, LaVonia, and two beautiful grand-daughters: Gabrielle-Sabrina, age 8 and Bethany-Symone, age 6. Three brothers: Kenneth Murphy (Dorothy), Andre Murphy and Charles Bland all of Burgaw, NC.  One sister: Marietta Murphy of Riegelwood, NC, a host of aunts,  neices, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

Elder Young yielded to God’s Call on her life and became an ordained Minister of the Gospel, in 1998 at Mount Bethel Church in Burgaw, North Carolina, under the tutelage of Elder Donald Newkirk, Pastor, and Assistant Pastor Arnetta Grant. She was later ordained as an Elder in June of 2007.       

Over the past 17 years she was about her Father’s Business and evangelized God’s Ministry in Pender, Columbus, Brunswick, Duplin, Bladen, Sampson and New Hanover County. She was never too busy to pray for the afflicted, lead a wounded soul to Jesus Christ, and give encouragement to all. She also ministered to countless people in need right over the telephone and witnessed God administer healing, comfort, and salvation. She used her gift of prophecy to tell men and women what thus saith the Lord. 

Elder Young dedicated most of her life to the service of her family, the elderly, children, and those pushed aside by others. She was truly a Virtuous Woman after God’s own heart. She will be truly be missed by all that knew and loved her.
