David Lewis Hankins was born on November 28, 1960, to Ms. Maggie Louise Hankins. David was raised by his maternal grandparents Archie & Maggie Hankins of Wallace, North Carolina. David became a member of Hayes Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Harrell, NC at an early age. David graduated from Wallace Rose Hill High School. After graduating high school David was employed in various jobs throughout his life. In other words, a ‘jack of all trades’. However, David had a special love for the Potter’s Wheel where he was hired as a staff member for 3 years. David affectionally became known as ‘Tattoo’ by so many who loved and respected the person he was. He never met a stranger and if he did, they were not one for long. David embraced his purpose in life which was to bring a smile and change as many lives as possible along his journey.
David was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Archie & Maggie Hankins, and brother Henry Lee Speight. He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Maggie Louise (stepfather Donnell) Washington, Wallace NC, sisters Emma (Tim) Robinson of Raleigh, NC, Brenda Gail Powers, Durham NC, Dr. Tina Louise Washington, Newport News, VA and brother James E. Speight, Wallace NC. Uncles Archie Hankins Jr., Toledo, Ohio, Walter Lee (Henrietta) Hankins, Durham, NC, aunts Rebecca Morgan, Toledo, Ohio, Lorraine (William) Watson, Wallace, NC, and Gloria Ann Hankins, Wallace, NC, and 5 nieces, 3 nephews, 5 great-nieces, and 4 great-nephews and other cousins, relatives and special friends from Potter’s Wheel in Mt Olive, NC. Beloved son, brother, and friend. Forever loved, forever missed David Lewis Hankins ‘Tattoo’.
