Henrietta Sandy

Mrs. Henrietta Delcina Sandy was born July 9, 1921, in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago on the Island of Tobago to the late Anna and Henry Cupid. She is the second of eight siblings. At an early age Mrs. Sandy moved to Trinidad where she later met and married her husband, the late Francis W. Sandy (deceased) who moved to St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands, where they resided for over 60 years.

In 2017, after Hurricane Maria devastated St. Croix, Mrs. Sandy’s home sustained severe damages. With no power to the island and Mrs. Sandy medical needs, her daughter, Sharon, moved her to North Carolina in Chinquapin where she live for the past eight years until her passing. Throughout those years Mrs. Sandy was very fortunate to have had many friends and family members who visited her in North Carolina. The Chinquapin community embraced her with open arms and outstanding support and also assisted her daughter Sharon in helping to take care of her.  Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, home decorating, gardening, and dancing; she was an elegant and gorgeous dresser. Her favorite TV show was The Lone Ranger. Although Mrs. Sandy was Catholic, serving the Lord was truly her passion. She attended First Missionary Baptist Church of Chinquapin with her family faithfully before the pandemic. When services shifted to livestream, Mrs. Sandy never missed a service online.

She loved and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren as well as other friends and family’s children. She was a very generous person and enjoyed sharing with anyone that visited her with home cooked meals and homemade drinks such as Sea moss, Sorrel, Mauby, Ginger beer beverage, Soursop, Passion fruit, and Gooseberry, to name a few.

Reminiscing on her blessed life, Mrs. Sandy had said, “She have lived a great life, she won’t complain, and thanked God for his many blessings on her throughout the years.”

Mrs. Sandy leaves behind one living sister, Mrs. Ruth Francois of Trinidad.

Mrs. Sandy’s living children: Joycelyn Norgriff, husband Ernest, (Trinidad); Curtis Sandy (St. Croix); Sharon Bennett (North Carolina), and Helen Hector, husband Arthur, (St. Croix.)  Grandchildren: Ancil James, Natasha Dillon, Darrel Dillon, Kareem Richards, Anthony Shane Richards,; Wendy Richards, Keith Richards, Ann Marie Richards, Jason Norgriff, Julius Norgriff, and Johann Norgriff; Naeema Sandy-Best husband Franklin and Robelto Sandy; Leo Sandy; Tashia Bennett, Kenneth Bennett, Jr. wife Yolanda, and Jamal McNeill; Kirk Kendall Grant, Kimberly Hector, husband Jeremiah and Kelcia Hector. Numerous great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great, great-great-grandchildren. Preceded her in death, husband Francis W. Sandy, two sons - Anthony Richards and David Sandy, grandchild Nichole Hazel-Ann Baptiste.

Funeral services will be held in St. Croix, United States Virgin Islands. Details are incomplete at this time.
