James Garfield Marshburn III

On April 18, 2021, James Garfield Marshburn rejoined his heavenly family and gained his wings. While some people only walk this Earth for a short time, their presence and departure remind us that angels are here in human form. Although Garfield will be dearly missed we are comforted by the fact that God loaned us one of his angels and we are grateful for the years we had with such a special father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

James was born to the late Garfield and Bettie Marshburn and grew up in Maple Hill, NC. He joined the church at an early age and remained a faithful member throughout his life. Garfield graduated from Pender High School in 1979 and then served in the United States Army for several years before receiving an honorable discharge. Afterward, he worked at Thorn Apple Valley in Holly Ridge, NC until retirement. Garfield was known for his compassionate spirit, joking nature, big smile, and caring for others. After retirement, he spent his time volunteering to assist people with getting around and caring for his grandchildren. He was also known for being the life of the party and a great cook. He is preceded in death by his late wife Lillie Marshburn. He is also preceded in death by his three siblings: brother, Luther Lee and sisters, Marion Louise "Lulu" Marshburn, and Therase Ann Marshburn.

Garfield leaves behind to celebrate his memory:  Children:  James E. Marshburn and Appollonia Marshburn.  Brothers:  Paul Marshburn and Aurelius Marshburn.  Sisters:  Cocheeys Pickett, Esther Joy (Bernard) McMillian, and Betty Ann (Frankie) Shepard.  Special friends:  Myra Watkins-Horton, Arlette Wooten, and Izayah Wooten along with 10 grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
