John Earl McDuffie

On Saturday, December 5th, 2020, John Earl McDuffie left his earthly home peacefully to be with his Lord eternally. His battle with medical issues in recent years showed his true courage to face life's challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, John came out a hero and stayed strong until the end. John Earl McDuffie, son of late John Clarence McDuffie and Pearl Lewis McDuffie, was born August 15, 1952, in Currie, North Carolina. He attended the Pender County Public Schools. 

In the mid-70's he attended the Job Corps with his brother Aaron in Maysville, Kentucky.  Once John mastered the trade of construction, he returned home to Currie. Shortly thereafter, he rededicated his life at Saint Mary United Baptist Church in December 1979. Within a year, John Earl married Cynthia Ann McDuffie, on December 14, 1980. After several years of focusing on his career, he and his wife decided to start a family. They finally welcomed their first child Allison in February 1986. Shortly thereafter John and Ann added two more children to the union, Matthew in January 1989 and Kayla in November 1991. For the next several decade's John continued work in construction until his health began to decline. Even in sickness, he never allowed that to stop him from doing numerous jobs for family members, friends, and random acts of kindness in the community. In addition to his parents, John was also preceded in death by two brothers: Clarence McDuffie and Charles Lewis.

He leaves his precious memories to be cherished by his wife: Cynthia Ann McDuffie, of Currie; three children: Allison Shadawn McDuffie, of Maple Hill. NC, Matthew McDuffie, of Wilmington, NC, and Kayla Renee McDuffie, of Kuwait; four grandchildren: Mahogany, Marshawn and Rebecca; Nicholas McDuffie - US Navy; four sisters: Bessie Johnson, of Baltimore, MD, Jannie McDuffie Polk, of Wilmington, NC, Alice Devone, of Currie, NC, and Lillie McDuffie, of Currie, NC; six brothers: James (Mary) McDuffie, of Burgaw, NC, Edward (Pearl) McDuffie, of Currie, NC, Willie (Dorothy) McDuffie, of Currie, NC, Jimmie (Ida) McDuffie, of Currie, NC, Aaron (Virginia) McDuffie, of New York, and Arthur (Catherine) McDuffie, of Wallace, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
