Mary Elizabeth Mallard Walker was born on May 16, 1941, to the late Albert Mallard and the late Dorothy Mallard. On Wednesday, September 8, 2021 in Burgaw, NC, while she slept, God in all his wisdom, whisked her away from earth to glory.
“Momma, Elder Walker and Mommie”, as she was affectionately called, received her education in Burgaw, NC and Washington, DC. To further her education, she studied nursing and Theology. Not just by word but by deed. "Live what you Preach.”
She was united in holy matrimony to Mark Tyler, Jr.
Elder Walker received Christ at an early age and was a gifted songstress and pianist. When she moved to New York and Washington, DC; she would often be called to sing at numerous churches and events. At one time she was offered a chance to sing professionally but refused because “caring for her children was more important to her.”
While in Washington, DC, Elder Mary was a faithful member of Faith Tabernacle United Holy Church under the leadership of late Bishop Joseph T. Bowens. Upon relocating back to Burgaw, NC, she rejoined her childhood church, St. John United Holy Church under the leadership of Bishop Devin Pickett. Elder Walker gave full support to the Ministry of God. She was a prayer warrior, preacher, mother, grandmother, aunt, and lover of people with every fiber of her being.
With faith, care and prayer, Elder Walker leaves a legacy of love to her four children: Gragery Tyler (Jamie) of Goldsboro, NC, Gwendolyn Robinson of the home, Towana Peterson of Wilmington, NC, Bernard “Mena” Tyler of Georgia, twelve grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, many other relatives and friends.
