Mr. Melvin Lee Davis was born on July 15, 1951 to the late Hoxie and Helen Davis in Rocky Point, North Carolina. He departed this earthly world on Sunday, October 31, 2021 at Sentara Care Plex Hospital, Hampton, Virginia.
Melvin attended Burgaw High School where he graduated in 1969. After graduating High School, he moved to New York where he became a cook at LaGuardia Airport. After many years, Melvin then relocated to Hampton, where he worked at the Newport News shipyard as a crane operator for 18 years and made Hampton, Virginia his home.
Melvin was a hardworking man who was loved and well respected by everyone. Melvin would light up a room with his smile and laughter. Melvin was best known by most as “Sugar Rock.”
In addition to his parents, Melvin was also preceded in death by one sister: Annie Irene Mosley.
Melvin leaves to cherish his legacy and precious memories to: Two Daughters: Latoya Jones of Suffolk, VA, Shana Davis of Rocky Point, NC, Three Grandchildren: Kierra Jones and Dontrell Jones, both of Suffolk, VA, Damon Davis of Rocky Point, NC, Two Great-Grandchildren, Two Brothers: Hoxie Davis (Carolyn) of Rocky Point, NC, Leon C. Davis (Lois) of Hampton, VA, Three Sisters: Betty Baldwin-Bey (Thomas) of Rocky Point, NC, Hazel Lee of Rocky Point, NC, Patricia Magazine (Curtis) of Sumter, NC, Two Special Friends: Helen Boone and Jackie Futrell. A Host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
