Melvina James, lovingly known as Mel was born on September 20, 1966, in Burgaw, North Carolina to the late John Rouse James and Annie Lisa Farrior. She peacefully passed away on April 15, 2026, at the Laurels in the same beloved town in which she was born.
She attended Pender High School and later pursued nursing school to become a CNA. Melvina approached her work with compassion and care, understanding that serving others was not merely a job but a calling. As a CNA, she offered comfort, patience, and dignity to those in need, reflecting the heart of a true caregiver. Her work was a testimony to her character, and those who were cared for by her often remember her gentle hands and tender heart. She served faithfully and humbly, always willing to do what was needed with a spirit of kindness.
Melvina was also a woman who valued fellowship and the simple joys of life. She enjoyed reading novels, playing cards with family, and spending time with her grandkids, who brought her much happiness. These moments of laughter, storytelling, and togetherness were among her greatest treasures. She found joy in the ordinary blessings of life and made those around her feel loved and included. Her home and her heart were places of comfort, and the memories she created will be cherished for years to come. She lived with a heart that sought peace, mercy, and love.
Her faith was not only spoken but shown through her actions, her compassion, and the way she treated others. She understood the truth of Scripture and leaned on God’s promises with confidence. Her life reflected the words of 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” Those words beautifully describe the way she lived, and they offer comfort to all who mourn her passing.
Melvina leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and love. She will be remembered for her warm smile, her steady presence, and her devotion to those she held dear. .
Mel is survived by her loving children: James Batts Jr., Santana James, Rynda James, and Jasmine James, her loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Special Aunt, like a mother, Lynda Farrior, Siblings: Mervin James, Sarah Holmes, Annie James, Aletha James, Amos James, Eugene James, and Sandra James. Mel was preceded in death by her brothers Raeford James and John Rouse James Jr.
Though her earthly journey has ended, the love she shared remains alive in the hearts of her family and friends. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will continue to inspire gratitude and tenderness in all who knew her.
