Rufus James Walker

Mr. Rufus James Walker was born April 25, 1954 to the late Roosevelt Murphy and the late Margurite Brown. He peacefully transition from earthly labor on February 13, 2023 at Laurels of Pender Nursing Home in Burgaw, NC. He was preceded in death by 1 son, 1 sister, and 3 brothers.

Rudy as he was affectionately called, attended the Pender County School System. He was married to his loving wife Janie Marie Alderman for 35 years.

Rudy grew up between Wards Corner Loop Rd and the West Pender Community. He loved to have fun. Telling jokes and real-life stories was the joy of a visit with Rudy. He enjoyed his family and friends. He took joy in raising his nieces and nephews as his own and showing them how to make it in life.

As a master of fishing, he enjoyed spending time near the water. He would go fishing, catch a cooler of fish, then bring them home for someone else to cook as we sat around eating or he would just give them to someone in the community. Rudy and his best friend Bennie Marshall would load the boat and off they go from sunrise to sunset.

His second love was working on cars. He was the neighborhood mechanic. No matter where or when your car broke down, needed repair or you are buying a car, call Rudy and he would make sure you were ok.

A loving husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be missed by everyone that knew him.

He leaves to cherish his memories.

2 granddaughters, 2 great-grandsons, 4 nieces and nephews he reared as his own, 11 sisters, 3 brothers, 5 sisters in law, 4 brothers in law, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.
