Tena Marie Guillory, age 55, died at New Hanover Regional Medical Center on December 31, 2014 due to complications associated with breast cancer.
Tena was born on March 5, 1959 in Lafayette, Louisiana to parents Elgy Guillory and Mercellina Rougeau. She attended and graduated from Lafayette High School before joining the U.S. Army. She served in the Army as a Food Service Specialist from April 30, 1979 to January 31, 1985, whereupon she received an honorable discharge. She married Tracy L. Underwood of Wallace, North Carolina on July 15, 1980 in Frankfurt, Germany. She dedicated her remaining time educating and caring for her children and grandchildren.
Tena will be especially remembered for the dedication and tireless care she displayed to her children and grandchildren, the military service she gave for her country, and her culinary capabilities. Tena lived her life by simply devoting many aspects of it to others.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Rachelle Underwood; her father Elgy Guillory; her mother Mercellina Rougeau; her brother Jessie Guillory; and her stepsisters Willin Richard and Wanda Guillory.
Tena is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Tracy and Tracy Underwood of Fort Drum, NY; her daughter and son-in-law Ebony and Zapata Lewis of Burgaw, NC; her son Joshua Underwood of Cary, NC; her stepmother Elvis Guillory; her sisters Brenda Love and Carolyn Thibodeaux; her stepsister Rita Riggs, six grandchildren and many other loving family members and friends.
