Vernon Harmon, 64, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington NC following a brief illness.
Vernon was born at Cook County Hospital in Chicago IL on Sept 30 1950. In 1963 Vernon, along with his three brothers and father moved to Philadelphia, PA where he attended Brooks elementary school, followed by Shumaker Junior High, and then Overbrook High.
In 1968 Vernon joined the armed forces as a paratrooper in the United States army. Upon the completion of his three-year tour, he met and married his wife Kitinia James Harmon, with whom he had two children Rese and Ti.
In the following decade he enrolled in Temple University and worked for numerous family businesses, including but not limited to, People’s Vending, the Sirloin House, Conestoga Corner Store, the Roseland Bar & Grill, F&F check cashing, and Outerspace Lounge.
In 1995 Vernon began a career as an electrician and in 2008 became an electrical contractor and founded his company Static Electric.
Vernon had a passion for music, friends, and festive gatherings.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 43 years, Kitinia James Harmon, one son, Rese Harmon, (Yana), one daughter, Tigist Harmon, his grandsons, Faqeeh Harmon, Michael and Makai Walker, two brothers, Fred Harmon (Sharon) and Steve Harmon (Karen), one sister, Nikisha Stewart, two aunts, Voncille Taylor and Francis Harmon, five nephews, Justin Harmon, Demetrius Bruton, Jevon Stewart, General Lee James, John Michael James (Brandy), two nieces Paris Stewart, Kiechell James, father in law, General Lee James (Mary), three brothers-in-law, General Lee James (Barbara), William Dewey James (Clorina), Johnny MacDonald James (Kathy) and many loving cousins and friends.
