Wixie Mae Savage Cruse was born October 25, 1931 in Chinquapin, North Carolina to the late Gilbert and Kinnie Savage. She went home to be with the Lord on the final day of 2024.
She was educated in the Duplin County School System.
Wixie accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of First Missionary Baptist Church Chinquapin, NC. She joined Second Independent Missionary Baptist Church upon moving to Lexington in 1960. She would later move her letter to Imani Missionary Baptist Church, under the pastorate of Rev. Willis Polk, where she worshiped until her health would no longer allow her physical participation.
She worked at the University of Kentucky Hospital as the Unit Clerk in the Surgery Recovery Room for over 30 years.
Wixie enjoyed UK Basketball, word searches, crocheting, pottery and crafts of all types. She would often go to the Black & Williams Center where she was an avid member of the "Eldercrafters."
She was preceded in death by two daughters, Deborah Reed and Patricia Cruse; three sisters, Gladys Green, Ruby Hill and Louise Parker; and a great-great-granddaughter, Zoey Cruse.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her three granddaughters, Lashanda Cruse, Mia Reed and Deidra Reed; her 11 great-grandchildren, DeShandria Cruse-whom she raised, Bernard Terrell, Kendra White, DeJa Cruse, Zion Cruse, KeiShan Lee, Christian Lofton, Heavenly Reed, Makeiycha Reed, Asa Reed-Williams and Ariel Reed-Williams; her 12 great-great-grandchildren, including a special great-great-grandson, Vonnie "Junior" McDaniels, Jr.; her sister, Bernice Pickett; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
